As part of my work I spend a reasonable amount of time with growers of food and at markets and farmers markets documenting the produce that local people grow and ell.
One of my favourite things to photograph is a simple part of so many Australian lives and has been something I have long loved. The humble tomato. Big Red !!
Here is a collection of some of the photographs I have taken of tomatoes. A simple and honest fruit and very yummy, I can eat them like apples. A sprinkle of salt flakes and straight into the mouth. Lovely.
In fact the smell of ripe tomatoes in the afternoon sun in Summer is one of my favourite smells. One of my favourite things to do besides photographing tomatoes is growing them. I can never have enough plants in my garden. Though these days I know growing 5 different varieties covers all of my families needs.
Here's to Big Red and the upcoming tomato season. Let's get planting. If you need tips on how to harvest seeds from your favourite plants towards the end of the growing season head on over to my main website for a few tips.
